September 11, 2005 — At the Kosen-rufu Chanting
Meeting on September 4th, Rev. Nagasaka blamed the SGI
as the cause of Hurricane Katrina as well as the Tsunamithat
hit the Southeast Asia and India. He stated that because
the SGI was not united with the true teaching and did
not follow the high priest Nikken and the Dai-Gohonzon,
these disasters had occurred. Meanwhile, there have been
no actions taken by the Myosetusji temple in Flushing
to support the relief effort, nor collect donations. On
this day of 9/11, exactly 4 years after the terrorist
attacks on the United States occurred, the youth members
of SGI-USA New York stood up to request a meeting in regards
to these false statements made by Rev. Nagasaka.
On the evening of 9.11, about 40 youth visited Myosetsuji
temple as Rev. Nagasaka was pulling his car into the drive
way after coming home. The representatives approached
Rev. Nagasaka to request to meet, while others held a
large sign that read “We want to talk.”
Rev. Nagasaka completely ignored the group of youth and
the letter, which the representatives tried to present
to him and he did not accept (see reverse side). After
pulling his car inside of his property, Rev. Nagasaka
closed the steel gate in front of the 40 youths, and drove
away into the garage. He neither looked nor spoke even
a single word. As he walked away, some youth shouted out
“Why don’t you talk to us?” “Show
us your compassion.”
After this event, the youth knew that this was the reality
of a Nichiren Shoshu priest. There is no way that he really
cares about all the people. How can he call himself a
disciple of Nichiren Daishonin?
At the end of the day, the SGI-USA NY youth declared victory.
Nichiren himself was the master of debate, and so were
his successors, Nikko and Nichimoku. The youth courageously
stood up to confront the priest who didn’t even
have the courage to talk to them.
The youth of SGI-USA NY are determined to continuously
fight against injustice and devilish functions no matter
what, and follow the path of our mentor, President Ikeda.
New York youth sent following latter to Rev. Nagasaka
via registered mail, which he refused to receive:

Dear Mr. Nagasaka,
We are extremely disturbed by various statements you have
made about the SGI. In particular, we have received reports
that you recently blamed the SGI as the cause for Hurricane
Katrina and the tsunami in India. Is it accurate that
you claimed these disasters have occurred because SGI
members are not united with the high priest and do not
believe in the true teachings?
We feel it is very poignant that today is September 11th.
We clearly remember that you attributed the SGI and other
misleading religions as the cause for that tragic event,
too.
We, the youth of SGI in New York, request to meet with
you. We would like to question you on your precise reasoning:
how did you come to the conclusion that these disasters
were caused by us?
We must point out, however, that Nichiren himself was
a master of debate as were his successors, Nikko Shonin
and Nichimoku Shonin. Over and over again, even with people
they regarded as highly deluded, they engaged in debate.
If you claim yourself as Nichiren’s disciple we
would assume that you would now eagerly accept our invitation.
Your immediate response is requested.
Sincerely,
SGI-USA New York Youth Division |
