Kosei Mizushima, Nichiren Shoshu Study Department Chief

Kosei Mizushima, newly appointed Nichiren Shoshu Study Department Chief, spoke about the high priest's Gosho lecture at the summer training course in Taiseki-ji. This was on May 21, 2006, at the temple's chapter discussion meeting. He said: "During the tenure of Nikken Shonin, the high priest's Gosho lecture used to be about two hours long. However, Nichinyo Shonin, the new high priest, has changed to a one hour lecture format." Mizushima was showing off, as if he is writing the draft of the lecture himself.

He also slyly criticized Nikken, saying "Now is different from the past. We used to sit for long hours on the floor, Japanese style [sitting straight with your legs folded under you] -- some were catnapping, some were holding back a yawn. Some were listening to the lecture, yet glancing furtively at a watch, hoping that the lecture will finish soon. There were often suppressed shouts of "yes!" when it was finally over."

In other words, Mizushima criticized Nikken's lecture, saying his was "just long" and "a boring talk."

Mizushima used to lick the boots of Nikken before. However, once Nikken resigned as high priest and Mizushima became the Study Department chief, he did a complete about face as mentioned here.
